Picasso "1917 - 1937"
From October 10, 2008 to February 8, 2009 the Rome Vittoriano Monument will host the exhibit on the famous Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso, entitled "1917 - 1937".
The exhibit intends to present the great artist's works from a key point in his carrier - the years between the two world wars. During these twenty years Picasso crossed various artistic phases, some contradicting, without ever choosing a clear path.
This exhibit wants to demonstrate that this was his way to answer may questions: the return to order with Neoclassicism, abstraction that the artist declared he didn't love, the reason why no one ever delved into the dialogue he had with this trend, Surrealism, Matisse and Expressionism.
As Picasso said: "Painting is a profession for the blind: you don't paint what you see but what your feel, what you say to yourself about what you saw".
"1917 - 1937" thus presents an encyclopedic Picasso who challenges all the artistic trends of the twentieth century and not just the solitary hero that deals with his complex personal life.
The Harlequin Musician, work chose for the event poster, will also be on display.
